So - here's my "assignment 1" post:
Hello! My name is Vikki. I'm an exchange student from England. I study at Liverpool John Moores University, in Liverpool, but I'm originally from Birmingham, which is in the middle of England. I'm 21. I study Japanese and international business. I'll be in Kumamoto until next summer, and I love Kumamoto! It's beautiful. Although, I've not been to the castle yet - somebody take me please? I get in free because I'm a gaijin, so I'd be no trouble at all. :D My favourite food ever is mashed potato, but my favourite Japanese food is okonomiyaki. My favourite colour is orange and my favourite band ever is Blink 182. Okay. boring stuff over.
In regards to what my feelings are about being stared at when I'm out and about in town - I'm not really sure. I think it depends on my mood. If I'm not in a particularly friendly mood (it doesn't happen often, I promise) then I don't like it, but I have to admit that it's very weird being in the minority. Kinda refreshing! Sometimes it's awesome, like when we went with Toby to get his hair cut and they wanted to take all of our photo's to put on their website because they had never cut a foreigns person's hair before! I liked that. Mainly because it's like being famous and, well, who wouldn't like that!
What I would like is the name of a hairdresser who can make my (rare) blonde locks blonde again in a few weeks, we all know how having roots makes me feel ill and highly paranoid.
I've been in Japan for a month as of Wednesday and it's absolutely flown by! I can't believe it. It kinda scares me because I don't want the whole year to go that quick - but I know it will. Inevitable, ne?
There's so much I wanna do whilst I'm here. The next few weeks are busy, Yuki and Tomoko's graduation party, Japanese society in Kumamoto, English weekend, a trip to Fukuoka, hopefully the Masden class trip to Nagasaki, Clare's visit. I'm so excited. Life is excellent right now.
I think that what I can't get my head around, though, in regard to uni and the classes, is why everyone has the same lunch time. I just don't understand. It seems to me like the least efficient thing to do, making all the eaterys on campus super busy....
Right now, I can't think of anything that I really find odd/different/crazy about Japan. I note things, but then forget them. But I'm going to try harder to write them down and write about them! Excellent.
For now - here's my favourite Postsecret postcard of the week.
If you've not seen Postsecret, it's a project where people from all over the world send postcards with their secrets on to one man in America. Some of them are amazing.

Go! Go! Go!

Thanks Vikki! I enjoyed reading this. In regard to a hair dresser, I suggest you look for information on the archives of Kumamoto-i or post and inquiry there.
